Essex County Archery Junior and Senior Championships

Firstly a big thank you to all the archers that entered and competed at the junior championships on Saturday 9th June 2018 and the senior championships on 10th June 2018.

It was good to see the weather was kind to everyone on both days and there was a gentle breeze and no gusting winds to deal with on either day.

It was disappointing that there was a decline in junior entries this year but the standard was very high from those who competed at their age appropriate distances on Saturday.

With many of the winners at each of the distances scoring over 1000 points and in some cases 1200 points (results are shown on the competitions page). Six gold ends were recorded by Samuel Gulvin, Andrew Lock and Samuel Gulvin also won the best gold award.

Noak hill juniors won the Essex junior team award with scores from Rhiannon Easton, Andrew Lock and Samuel Gulvin being combined to win a hard fought competition between West Essex and Rayleigh town Archery clubs.

On the Sunday the seniors took to the field on what was again another wonderful day for archery. With 47 archers competing across all the distances and categories it was a busy day for the judges Maggie Pearce, Debbie Horne and Rob Clarke.

As with the juniors the competition was tough and hard fought with the winners all having to work hard for their medals and trophies (Results have been posted on the competition page for archers to see how they finished up).

A special mention to Sharon Lawrence who achieved her Grand Master Bowmen score with the longbow while competing in the Hereford competition.

Finally a thank you to the field party at Noak Hill Archers marshalled and managed by Harry making the days run smoothly and for Ken and the team for keeping the archers fed and watered over both days.

A thanks you to all the archers who competed and it would be great to see the numbers increase next year.
